Phase 8 – Second bodywork

FINISHING, PAINTING AND POLISHING

Second bodywork refers to the finishing and polishing phase of the artifacts. The first phases are performed with fine papers as a continuation of the first bodywork:

  • P800
  • P1000
  • P1500
  • P2000
  • Extra Mordant Paste
  • Mordent Paste
  • Fine Paste
  • Polish

Depending on the required finish, the finest papers (P1500 – P2000) can be avoided and the paste cycles can be reduced, passing only two or three.

Abrasive pastes are creamy materials based on alcohols and paraffins loaded with abrasive particles of different sizes: the larger they are, the more biting and abrasive they are, the smaller they are, the less biting they are. It is arranged on the surface using brushes and then electric polishers are used that have wool or sponge pads on the head. For the more biting pastes, wool pads are used, while for the fine pastes and polishes, sponge pads are used.

The products produced at Yacht Design are often painted with enamel (base – transparent) according to the specific requests of the customers. In this case, the preparation cycle of the printed part is carried out up to the P220 paper, followed by 400 to 500 grain paper depending on the color to be applied and then painting begins.
